biography

Mikhail Karasik is
a publisher of books and catalogues on Russian vanguard culture at the
beginning of XX century. The artist is an organizer and ideologist of
Petersburg Kharms-Festivals. He was born in Leningrad in 1953. In 1976 he graduated
from the art – graphic department of the State Teachers’ Training Institute
named after A. I. Hertsen (Leningrad), lives and
works in St. Petersburg.
The main personal
exhibitions: Scientific Library of the State Hermitage (1997, St. Petersburg),
Saxon State Library (1998, Drezden), Art Institute (1998, Chicago),
the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A. S. Pushkin (2001, Moscow),
the State Russian
Museum (2003, St. Petersburg).
Mikhail Karasik’s works are in the collections of the State Russian Museum, the
State Hermitage, the Russian National Library, the state Museum of Fine arts
named after A.S. Pushkin, the State Tretyakov Gallery, Victoria and Albert
Museum (London), the British Library (London), George Pompidu Centre (Paris),
the State Library (Berlin), Bavarian State Library (Munich), the Museum of
Modern Art (MoMa, New-York) and other great museums and libraries in Russia and
abroad.
