Alexandr Kitayev was born in 1952 in Leningrad. A member of the Union of Photoartists (1992), the Union of Artists of Russia (1994). He has been taking pictures since 1970-ties. In 1977 he graduated from the photocorrespodents of the city university at Leningrad House of Journalists. He was a member of the photo amateur societies: photoclub VDK, ‘’Friendship’’(1972-1982), ‘’Mirror’’ (1987-1988). He worked as a photographer at the Shipbuilding Plant (1978-1999). He participated in the organizing council of the festival called ‘’Traditional Autumn Photomarathon’’ (1998-2003). He is a free artist since 1999. He is an author of more than 70 personal exhibitions that took place in Russia, England, Germany, Holland, Greece, Italy, Switzerland. He took part in more than 130 group exhibitions. From 1996 to 2005 he carried out 14  exhibition projects as a curator. He wrote a number of texts on history and theory of photography. He has got a wide bibliography, his works are kept in Russian and foreign collections both state and private ones.
