The Battle of People against Artefacts

17 Feb - 21 Feb 2015

17th February at 7 p.m. Anna Nova gallery presents an exposition of Yuri Alexandrov’s graphic series ‘The battle of people against artefacts’.

Graphic series is not a very popular genre, and, to be honest, it tends to be a bit boring one. It’s hardly possible to combine watching thoughtfully and sequentially eighty pictures with reading eighty inscriptions and also trying to understand how they relate. And would it even be worth it? However, even if someone tried to be thoughtful, it wouldn’t really help – the brain is resting here. Of course, there were masters: Giovanni Piranesi (about prisons), Boris Prorokov ( ‘Here is America!’), but they had other themes – attractive, evergreen, understandable without any inscriptions; and ‘the artefacts’ is something from archeology and about the end of the world or the beginning of a new brave one.

This series is a continuation and a kind of summary of Alexandrov’s previous exhibitions: ‘Contemporary art of Chukotka’, ‘Scripture’, ‘Leningrad school’, ‘The last supper’ and others.
