On 23 April, the birthday of photographer Dmitry Markov, the exhibition “Seventh Heaven” opens at the Centre for Urban Culture. The project was first presented last year and comprised two parts: the eponymous exhibition at the Anna Nova Gallery in St Petersburg, followed by its continuation at the PENNLAB Gallery in Moscow under the title “The Optics of Hope”.
This marks the first solo exhibition since the photographer's passing, realised in collaboration with his sister, Tatyana Markova. The curator of “Seventh Heaven” is photographer and artist Vladislav Efimov. In developing the project, Efimov seeks to draw attention to a central theme that runs through Markov’s body of work: a belief in the human spirit and its capacity for inner growth, regardless of circumstance.
This year, “Seventh Heaven” will travel to various cities across Russia that are closely connected to the artist’s life and path. Perm City Centre is the first stop on this journey.
The exhibition opens on 23 April at 19:00 at Perm City Centre, Pushkina Street, 15.
