Documentary photographer. He is known for his photographs, taken with iPhone, capturing everyday life in Russia. In 2012, Markov created an Instagram account as an experiment without any pretensions to professional photo production. In 2013, he participated in the Burn Diary project, created by Magnum Agency photographer David Alan Hervey, after which he adopted the concept of shooting only on a cell phone.

 

In 2015, he was one of three photographers in the world to receive a grant from Getty Images, one of the largest global photo agencies. Dmitry is the winner of Silver Camera Grand Prix. In 2016 Markov became the first Russian participant of the ‘Apple Taken on the iPhone’ campaign. The artist Dmitry Vrubel created a virtual museum, where one of the departments bears Markov's name.
