Criticizing Eternity: Oleg Oskolkov

27 October - 24 November 2006

Oleg Oskolkov became a winner of the first competition of young artists "New projects of the Anna Nova Gallery"

"On criticizing eternity, our gaze passes through various thresholds: an epic panorama of the city out of time, which, finding a name loses its pathos, and becomes a document, or, according to the author, a "dossier"; and with the advent of the figure of the critic, irony affects the very idea of historical and cultural speculation, and we are left alone with our own doubts about the possibility of understanding the course of history. And so we have one option — to go back to the silent speech of the fine arts, to that which the landscape–profiles and image-dossiers refer. Oleg Oskolkov’s landscapes affect one as a spectacle seen many times already, yet always remaining unrecognized and elusive. It is as though one is encountering an earlier, irrevocably changed self."
