Surveillance Zone

Dance performance based on the project by Anya and Vitalik Cherepanov

With the rise of new technology, humanity is actively immersing in the space of universal surveillance and watching each other. We watch our loved ones, our friends, our children. The state watches the citizens. Security guards watch the intruders. We want to be watched.

Video cameras, social networks, geolocation, all these technologies extend the concept of the panopticon (from the Greek πᾶν "everything" + ὀπτικός 'visible'), a system of tracking multiple people simultaneously, and become the basis for the 'control society' that manifests itself in surveillance cameras and information acquisition systems.

Surveillance Zone is a dance performance that reflects on a man-created world where each of us is watching the other, and persecution mania becomes a mass reality to which we have voluntarily consented.
