On March 19 at 7:00 p.m. pop/off/art gallery at Winzavod will host the presentation of Andrey Kuzkin’s book “The Journey of the Wooden Suitcase 2” published by Anna Nova Gallery.
The event will become part of the public programme accompanying Kuzkin’s exhibition “Not Here” presented at pop/off/art 2.0 in the Patriarch Ponds area.
The book follows the artist’s journey to the village of Potapyevo undertaken in search of traces of his ancestors in order to better understand himself. On this journey he carries an object filled with memories and family legends — a wooden suitcase that once belonged to his grandfather.
The story becomes an attempt to access both personal and collective memory: on one hand, it traces a specific family line and individual lives; on the other, it reflects a broader contemporary search for ancestry and connection to it.
At the presentation Andrey Kuzkin and Ilya Kronchev-Ivanov (researcher, curator, and lecturer at the Higher School of Economics) will take part in an open discussion about how projects are created at the intersection of art, family history and memory research.
