THE CIRCUS 17, Uldus Bakhtiozina

Uldus turns to the theme of the Russian revolutions of 1917 and creates a series of photographs entitled "Circus 17" — an allegorical reconstruction of the conflict between "reds" and "whites" - the imagery of which, built on subtle semantic gradations of color, is universal and applicable to any political discourse

Dmitry Pashkevich

The exhibition "Circus 17" is a personal project of the artist Uldus Bakhtiozina, in which she examines the revolution in a new way as a performance of the circus of the early 20th century, in which the characters — actors in the arena — are a collective metaphorical image of the main ideologists and participants in the revolution.

Through the acquaintance of the audience with the artists, comes the realization that history is a repeating spiral, where the line between the past and the present is slowly erased, and occurs a discovery: the audience is still the same. They are the basis of the presentation, and they never change. Self-knowledge is arranged not for the heroes of the performance, but for the audience, aimed at ensuring that people ask questions and do not succumb to the propaganda and agitation of opposite camps, but have originality, the will to truth and decisiveness.
